Producer Spotlight: 7L
The best part about being a DJ is their versatility. 7L, short for George Andrinopolos, said, “I am not married to one genre.” With the release of Flow Season, 7L throws down some of the hottest beats around! So, what’s his deal?
Rewinding back to the early eighties, DJ’s were not getting enough, if any, credit. Then suddenly, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five release one of the quintessential hip-hop albums of all time, Adventures of Grandmaster Flash on the Wheels of Steel.
It was at that moment the Boston-bred 7L decided to become a DJ. He began collecting albums in 1987 and was DJ-ing within two years. By 1993, 7L was producing. Notably critical of himself, he claims that he wasn’t any good until four years later.
While he spends most of his time with musical partner, Esoteric, he simultaneously has worked with artists Jedi Mind Tricks, Shabazz the Disciple, Tragedy Khadafi, AOTP, Outerspace, Celph Titled and others. Needless to say, he has made quite a name for himself.
His musical taste, varying from rock to house to hip-hop has won him Best DJ at the Boston Phoenix Readers Choice Awards, four years in a row!
7L&Esoteric released A New Dope in June with rave reviews. The Bladerunners, an hour long mixtape of breaks, freestyle, and new wave, is available now. Listen up for his collaboration with lyricist Main Flow on Flow Season, set to release on September 26, 2006. Although the lyrics are incomparable to the beats, be sure to check it out!
