Living Legends Blog PicThis west coast family of hip hoppers are celebrating their 10th Anniversary this year. Aesop, Luckyiam, The Grouch, Bicasso, Sunspot Jonz, Murs, 3MG, Scarub, and G&E released Legendary Music Volume One Tuesday, August 15, 2006.

Allowing each member at least one track, there is something for everyone. Slug of Atmosphere, Marty James of One Block Radius, and Nesa Wright make guest appearances with the Legends. For all hardcore fans, this album must be part of the collection. To all new fans, it’s time to do some research. Check out Kristofer Upjohn’s review to catch-up.

While all members are well-known for their collective role in Living Legends, they all work simultaneously on projects with other members. Just to name a few worth checking out: the 3MG’s (A.K.A. 3 Melancholy Gypsys A.K.A. Scarub, Eligh, and Murs) 2005 release Grand Caravan to the Rim of the World; last Spring Scarub released One for the Road Volume One with production by himself, Mils, Headnodic (of Crown City Rockers), and Eligh; also in Spring 2006 Murs released Murray’s Revenge with production by 9th Wonder; and Sunspot Jonz’ Back in Black featuring songs from his upcoming film “Sonny Dreamweaver” and songs from future albums.

Their music has always been known to be progressive, but not too far-fetched out of the classic hip-hop realm. Their ability to share the mic equally among the crew is not only obvious on the album, but also at any Living Legends show. With surprise guest DJ’s and freestyle showdown’s, no two Legends’ shows are ever alike. If in the area, be sure to check’em out at the Broke Ass Summer Jam Friday, September 1, 2006 at the Historic Sweets Ballroom in Oakland, Cali. Tickets are still on sale at http://www.collectiv.com/.

Look out for the ultimate collabo of The Grouch and Zion I with Heroes in the City of Dope which should be released this October. Also, Luckyiam teams up with Marty James and together they transform into The O.W.L.’s, The Over Weight Litharios. They are currently in the studio recording Animal Handlers. Keep your eyes and ears open for a release date.
