I really wish I could say I clearly remember my first celebrity interview… but I can’t.
It might have been Eek-A-Mouse, a looooong time ago when I was still in school and hosting a reggae radio show. My co-host and I hung out in Eek’s parked tour bus tape recorders in hand ’til the sun came up, inhaling 2nd hand pot smoke and listening to dude rant about not going out like murdered reggae legend Peter Tosh. Nah, Eek wasn’t going to be a victim… he was going to have 24 hour camera surveillance at his crib.
Or, it might have been KRS-One, or Mutabaruka… they’re all somewhere on a tape (remember those?) at the bottom of a trunk somewhere…among the memories surrounded in a thick haze of smoke.
I can tell you the majority of my interviews are on the Internet. Many of them took place during my stint as “guide” over at rap.about.com (2000-2005), a number can be found at HiphopRnbSoul.com. I’ve made it my business to link to as many as I can here, so feel free to check out the online interviews, and soon, when I have some time I’ll add to the links scans of printed interviews.
Hell, maybe I’ll even dig up those old tapes and convert them to MP3s.
