R&B/Hip-hop charts this week: Keyshia Cole is the queen, Alicia Keys grabs the top spot, and Tyler Perry cracks the Top 10.
The latest from the under-rated Talib Kweli bows this week at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 as well as the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and Top Rap Albums charts.
Featuring a ton of big name guests such as Kanye West, UGK, Musiq, Roy Ayers, Jean Grae, Raheem DeVaughn, Pete Rock and KRS-One, this set is being called a “comeback” for the conscious Brooklyn emcee.
Check out the latest video from the set. “Hot Thing” is smoking.

This week’s only debut came from the legendary, and long-lasting, band Kool & The Gang.
Still Kool comes in at No. 31, counts as the week’s hotshot debut, and offers a double-CD album featuring 16 new tracks as well as five K&TG classics.
Meanwhile, recent hip-hop releases include
from hip-hop/jazz master Guru who returns with the fourth installment of his famous Jazzmatazz series. *
R&B/Hip-hop charts this week: T.I. is still tops, Kool & The Gang are still icey, and T-Pain serves up a hit.
Pick-of-the-week rap/hip-hop and R&B singles props go to Fantasia, R. Kelly & Usher, Joe, Redman, Keyshia Cole, T.I., T-Pain, Eve, 50 Cent and more. |

Pick-of-the-week rap/hip-hop and R&B singles props go to Joss Stone, Musiq Soulchild, 50 Cent, Fantasia, Hurricane Chris, Evidence, Anthony Hamilton and more.
R&B/Hip-hop charts this week: Ne-Yo puts the charts on lock, R. Kelly and Usher get high with the “same girl,” and T-Pain foots the bill.
Musiq Soulchild‘s latest set, Luvanmusiq, has grabbed the No. 1. thanks in part to Top 5 single “Buddy.” In a recent interview, Musiq acknowledged his absence from the limelight and thanked his fans for not forgetting him.
“Thank you for supporting me for so long and thank you for still checking for me. I never want to take that for granted, because I know how in this business it’s easy to be forgotten about. And that just is what it is, but for me to still be in the forefront of people’s attention and what they’re looking for, I’m very grateful!“
Other big debuts this week come from street hottie Lloyd at No. 2 with his sophomore set Street Love, featuring the song “You”; Rich Boy‘s self-titled album at No. 3; Amy Winehouse‘s Back to Black at No. 7 and Memphis duo 8Ball & MJG at No. 8 with Ridin’ High.
Finally Lupe Fiasco, whose debut seems to be living up to his last name, might catch a break. After some sinister force leaked his album not once but twice, some dark presence caused record sales authority, SoundScan, to count wrong and mess up Billboard’s weekly charts.
Billboard claims the top 6 albums on the Billboard 200 (including Justin Timberlake’s at No. 1) remain the same, but the majority of everything else might shift.
“Actually, this week’s Billboards numbers are off because of an error!!!” Fiasco said on a forum board, according to Soundslam. “Best Buy hadn’t turned in their sales… I must remind I was the number #1 seller at Best Buy this week. The numbers without Best Buy stand at 57,000…the new numbers will be out this Friday after they turn in… hahahahaha… GOD IS GREAT!!!!”
If this is the case, his set, Lupe Fiasco’s Food & Liquor, may very well end up No. 1 on the Top Rap Albums Chart and displace Chingy’s Hoodstar, but as of posting time the Billboard charts remain unchanged.
