Alicia Keys Launches Contest To Find Backup Singer For World Tour

Despite having had to cancel several shows due to vocal illness, Alicia Keys was able to tell fans about her contest to find a new backup singer to join her on her world tour.

If you’re 21-30 and have a valid passport, all you have to do is submit a video of yourself singing acapella for at least 30 seconds. But it has to be an original compositions as cover songs are not allowed. Also you must be in shape and able to dance, so Martha Wash types need not apply.

Police Who Murdered Sean Bell Fully Acquitted

 The three detectives who killed Sean Bell were found not guilty on all charges Friday morning. Mr. Bell, an innocent man and father to an infant, celebrated his bachelor party shortly before dying in a hail of 50 police bullets outside a club in Jamaica, Queen hours before the 23 year-old was to be maried.

Many hip-hop artists had previously protested the murders, including Nas who referred to the detectives as “gangsters.”

Weekly CD Giveaway: “Life After Death: The Movie – Ten Years Later”

This week we have Life After Death: The Movie – Ten Years Later. Starring Lil’ Kim, Diddy, Notorious B.I.G. and D-Roc.

This DVD was released in July of 2007 – a little more than ten years after the murder of Notorious B.I.G. The film chronicles the careers and lives of the people he worked with (Lil’ Kim, Junior Mafia and their manager D-Roc) and follows them from 1997-2007; right up to the Hot 97 shootout that led to Lil’ Kim going to prison.

The film is narrated by Jamie Hector of The Wire and includes actual footage of the Hot 97 shootout. D-Roc put it out on his RocDarling Films.

Clive Davis: Leona Lewis Is “The Real Deal”

A couple of days before exiting his position as the CEO of the BMG label group, the legendary Clive Davis spoke on the No. 1 debut of Britain’s Leona Lewis, calling her the “real deal.”

“Leona Lewis will not be an overnight sensation,” Davis in a statement Wednesday. “She is the real deal and this is just the beginning of a long and illustrious career.”

This week, Lewis’ Spirit debuted at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 chart and made her the first British artist to reach the top of the chart with a debut album.

Meanwhile, Davis who was instrumental in forming the careers of Whitney Houston, Britney Spears, Carrie Underwood, just to name a few, moves into the new role of chief creative officer of Sony BMG Music Entertainment, which includes RCA Records, Jive, LaFace and Arista, which Davis founded in 1974.

We went looking for non-superstar rap videos that supported either Obama, Clinton and/or McCain, but the only “supportive” clip was for Obama. The rest were kind of mean but hey they were funny so here we go…
