Sean Levert, Brother To Gerald Levert, Dies At 39

by admin ·

Sean Levert, brother to the late Gerald Levert and son of soul legend and lead of The O’Jays, singer Eddie Levert, passed away after a medical emergency in jail. He was 39.
The singer was taken from the Cuyahoga County jail in Cleveland about 11 p.m. Sunday and died within the hour at Lutheran Hospital. An autopsy was planned, said coroner Frank Miller.

Levert was sentenced to the Cuyahoga County jail last week for one year and 10 months for failing to pay $85,000 in child support.

Gerald Levert was 40 when he died in 2006 of an accidental mix of prescription and over-the-counter drugs.

The brothers had formed LeVert in the 1980s with childhood friend Marc Gordon. Their hits included “Baby I’m Ready,” “(Pop, Pop, Pop, Pop) Goes My Mind” and the Grammy-nominated “Casanova.”

At Gerald Levert’s funeral service in November 2006, Sean Levert and his father performed “Dance With My Father” and personalized the words for Gerald.

Sean Levert found a new third partner last year and was trying to revive LeVert.

Warden Kevin McDonough said Levert had been sick and guards were watching him at the jail’s regular cellblock because he had been acting strangely. There were no specifics about Levert’s medical condition, although it is known he suffered from high blood pressure and had been hallucinating in jail.

Toxicology reports could take four to six weeks.

Today the sound of rolling heads is pretty loud.

“The bottom line is that the documents we relied on should not have been used,” editor Russ Stanton said on the paper’s site. “We apologize both to our readers and to those referenced in the documents … and in the story.”
