Upcoming Releases: Superbad Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

If you like your Blaxploitation funk greasy and raw you must check out the upcoming Superbad: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack due for a Aug. 7 release.

The movie about two white highschool students has a soundtrack that features musical heavyhitters such as The Roots, Bootsy Collins, Clyde Stubblefield, John “Jab’o” Starks, Phelps “Catfish” Collins, and Bernie Worrell.

The film opens Aug. 17th, 2007, but you can get a taste of the music here:

New Music: Prince – “The One U Wanna C”

The Purple One has two new singles from his new album Planet Earth scheduled to drop July 24th.

Wyclef Jean Produces Sun AKA Geisha’s “China Wine”

Four time platinum music artist Sun recently announced the release of her North American debut produced by Wyclef Jean.

The lead single, “China Wine,” is the duo’s first collaborative effort and was co- written by Sun and Wyclef who also sings and appears in the video.

The track has already made history as the first song recorded by an Asian artist to be played on New York City’s infamous HOT 97.

Underground Spotlight: Ams Uno Preps Animated Stagnation

Outspoken Rhode Island politico/socio rapper, Ams Uno, is gearing up for the release of Animated Stagnation.

“I put the last three years into this album,” says Uno, “and I have a lot to say and I decided to ride with CommonWealth Records again because I got a lot of shit to do and say, and I know CommonWealth won’t hold me back or censor my music plus the entire company will push the CD to the maximum because they truly love and respect my music.  I am very excited about the whole thing.”

The ClokWorx member will drop the set in stores September 18 via Amalgam Entertainment and exclusively on-line at AmalgamDigital.com.

New Music – Q-Tip – “WorkItOut”

Here’s the first single from Q-Tip’s newest album The Renaissance due this Fall.

Lead single is “WorkItOut,” dropped July 3rd and for which the hip-hop legend says:

Hiero Imperium Signs 1st Act, Knobody

California-based underground titan Hiero Imperium Records announces Bay Area rapper Knobody as the first artist signing to its new Triple i League.

“Knobody’s well of rhymes runs deep,” said Hiero vet Casual. “The only other emcee I’ve heard who can consistently flow on the same subject throughout a song without having to switch up is Eminem.”

Knobody’s first album on Hiero, Tha Clean Up, will be released on September 18, 2007.

KRS-One’s Son Found Dead Of Suicide

The son of KRS-One, Randy Hubbard Parker, was found dead in his Atlanta apartment of an apparent suicide. He was 23 years old.

The son of the hip-hop icon and his wife, Simone G. Parker, suffered from “severe depression” according to his mother. The cause of death was reported as a gunshot wound to the head.

A private memorial for the young designer will be held July 18, with a memorial service in his hometown of New York to follow. Sadly, the 18th would have been his 24th birthday.

According to a statement, “KRS-One and Simone Parker send their sincere appreciation to everyone who has already responded to the tragic news.”

Live at the BBQ Celebrates Hip-hop With Common, UGK And More

If you’re still not quite sure what Zune is, be rest assured the ambiguous anti-phone company is behind hip-hop music as they kick off a series of big city shows featuring some of the biggest names in rap including Common, David Banner, UGK, Mos Def, Bilal, Clipse, Collie Budz, E-40, Cham, Large Professor.

“‘Live at the BBQ’ is helping to bring hip-hop back to a golden age where records were produced and iconic artists rose directly out of their local communities,” said Bun B of UGK. “It’s a chance to put singles, ring tones, and industry hype aside and just get a bunch of our friends together for some great music and BBQ. Let’s eat.”

The 3 free summer performance events will take place in LA (July 12), Chicago (July 22) and August 4 in NYC.
