News Bits: Jermaine Dupri Signs Jagged Edge, Ingram Dies & Chamillionaire Teams With Energizer Bunny

Fresh on the heels of accepting his new power position as Island Urban Music president, Jermaine Dupri has made R&B group Jagged Edge the first signing. A new JE album is is slated for this year as the follow-up to the quartet’s 2006 self-titled sales flop. Dupri has also signed California rapper Hot Dolla whose debut is expected later this year as well.

Luther Ingram, best known for the 1972 R&B classic “(If Loving You Is Wrong) I Don`t Want to be Right,” died March 19. The 69-year-old singer/songwriter succumbed to kidney disease after having undergone a kidney transplant several years ago. Ingram, who made his name at Stax Records, also co-wrote the Staple Singers` mega-hit “Respect Yourself.”

Finally, Chamillionaire has hooked up with the Energizer Bunny for the “Energizer e2 Titanium Technology Freestylin’ Music Contest.” As a celebrity judge, the Houston rapper will choose the best talents who enter the online music at www.mySpace.com/energizer. The contest closes April 21.
