Corinne Bailey Rae: Triple Grammy Nominee Recalls Racist Experiences

by West ·

Corinne Bailey Rae27 year-old Corinne Bailey Rae has gone from being a little-known artist working as a nightclub hat check girl to a critically-lauded triple Grammy nominee… all in less than a year.

In an exclusive audio interview, Rae tells HiphopRnbSoul.com that while the Wikipedia entry regarding her alleged childhood racial abuse is exaggerated, she did experience her share of racism while growing up in the UK.
We were called half-caste… mixed race and mixed heritage and all these things… I just think the terms “mixed” and “half” are not really accurate or logical in describing human beings. It’s not like mixing two kinds of dogs or something. I think humans are kind of all the same.”

On the flip side, the budding genius went on to assure us the experience of being treated as “an outsider” while still a child helped her to later claim her identity as a musician. She also talked about her Grammy noms, touring, holiday plans and more.
