The Roots Of Def Jam
Now that the almighty Roots are officially with Def Jam, some major sh*t should be jumping off. Look for their next CD, Game Theory, to break the rules on August 29th. The ever-eloquent ?uestlove (pronounced Questlove for y’all who don’t know) has always been the mouthpiece for the group, but even more so recently. Earlier this year, he confirmed the tone of this new set will be edgier than any of their previous eight albums, saying it will be “very mature, very serious, very dark.”
Plus, in an eye-opening interview with Allhiphop.com, he revealed that Malik B. has truly returned to the Roots fold after “taking a break” almost a decade ago.
The Philly group’s last release for Geffen, the double disc Home Grown! The Beginners Guide To Understanding The Roots Volume One and Two dropped in November.
Tracks on Game Theory include “Can’t Stop,” a tribute song to the late J-Dilla and “It Don’t Feel Right” which you can check out below. Plans for an extensive tour are also in the works with dates stretching into May of 2007.
